Literacy and Numeracy Review

Sections

On 9 March 2006 the Minister for Education and Training announced that a comprehensive Literacy and Numeracy Review would be undertaken in Western Australia.

Purpose of the Review

The purpose of the Literacy and Numeracy Review was to improve literacy and numeracy levels of achievement of those students who are struggling, particularly those not reaching the benchmarks in years 3, 5 and 7.

Timeline for the Review

A preliminary report in the form of a public consultation paper was produced following Stage One of the Review.  It was the subject of a public consultation process at forums throughout the state.  The report was disseminated to schools and community organisations.  Copies were also available on-line and at the public consultation forums.
The final report was released by the Minister for Education and Training in March 2007.

Public Consultation Forums

The Review Taskforce was keen to obtain a range of perspectives on what makes a difference to students' literacy and numeracy achievement, Kindergarten to Year 7.  School and community members were invited to attend public consultation forums to provide feedback on the proposals in the Preliminary Report.  The public consultation process concluded on 31 October 2006.
